Portraits

I'm trying to figure out faces. I would like to learn to do speed paintings for portraits at least. Just something I want to have a grasp on, I still have no intention of doing realistic or highly rendered work. I'm thinking I just have trouble using so many colours... perhaps I'll try some grey scale images.

Feel free to comment with suggestions.

  1. The first one is the strongest portrait if you ask me. There is a better sense of form and value. And that is what gives it life, where as the other two have a flatness to them.

In addition there is a wider variety of colours with various levels of saturation. For example the cheeks in the first one compared to the other two. That variation helps a lot!

Keep doing what you did in the first!

I was also thinking about going on a portrait binge, of course it would be self portraits..... hopefully i don't blind anyone.

    Keep it up Trucker.
